BLA 1L Representatives

Patrick (Reid) Miller

Reid Miller is a 1L at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Reid grew up in Orange County and graduated from the University of Southern California, where he studied Communication. Prior to attending law school, Reid worked as an Assistant at Warner Bros. Pictures and then in the Creative Department of an advertising agency in Los Angeles, Ground Zero. These experiences exposed him to many aspects of business, media, and emerging technologies, and he would like to ultimately return to one of these industries to work as an attorney. In his spare time, he enjoys writing, cooking, taking photos, and listening to music.

Garrick Chan

Garrick was born and raised in San Francisco, CA.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from University of the Pacific.  While in undergrad, Garrick served as media relations intern for the Sacramento Capitals (WorldTeamTennis) and compliance intern for the athletics department at Pacific.  In addition to being a first year law student at USF, he currently serves as social media intern for a startup company, HecklerSports.  In his freetime, Garrick enjoys watching and playings sports and collecting sneakers.

Marilena Guadagnini - Section 1 Representative

Originally from Huntington Beach, CA, Marilena moved to San Francisco to attend law school. She earned her bachelor's degree at Long Island University, a private school in New York, where she majored in Political Science and minored in English. Marilena has been involved in sports all her life, and played collegiate volleyball during all four years of her undergraduate career. Now, in her first year of law school, Marilena is dedicated to her studies, and aims at getting involved in clubs that pertain to her interests. She is hoping to earn a JD/MBA dual degree from USF and enter the corporate legal field. She is excited to be a part of the Business Law Association, and wants to learn about the different career opportunities the corporate world has to offer.

Alaina Piland

Alaina Piland is a native of Northern California. She completed her bachelors in Political Science and International Relations at the University of California, Berkeley. While completing her undergraduate education, Alaina worked in the legal department for SN Servicing Corporation, a loan acquisition and real estate investment firm. Following graduation, she returned to SN Servicing as the leader of the management team for the company’s community investment projects. Alaina is currently enjoying her first year at the University of San Francisco School of Law where she plans on pursuing a Business Law Certificate. She is an avid Giants and 49ers fan, and is excited to be living in the Bay Area cheering on her teams.

Viet Nguyen

Viet was born in Colorado and grew up in Northern California. He is a 1L at the University of San Francisco School of Law. He has an undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Biology, and an MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. Prior to law school, Viet worked in the medical device industry as a Business Development Manager. His goal is to blend his business background with a law degree to pursue a career in business law. Viet enjoys volunteering and traveling in his free time.

Zac Hlavaty – Section 2 Representative

Zac Hlavaty is a 1L at the University of San Francisco School of Law. He was born and raised in San Bernardino, CA. Zac attended Mesa College in San Diego, where he played on their intercollegiate tennis team before graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Business Economics and Accounting. Besides being a 1L rep for BLA, Zac is also a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Association at USF. In his free time Zac enjoys riding his motorcycle and ocean kayaking.
